Incidental Findings in Genetic Research and Clinical Diagnostic Tests
The objectives are: • To explore the attitudes of clinicians, research ethics committee members, researchers and members of the general public towards managing IF • To determine the current provision and approach taken regarding management and disclosure of IF within the context of research ethics committees, genomic researchers and clinical care • To ascertain needs for training and support of clinical and/or research staff who may deal with IF • To determine the needs of members of the general public in terms of information about and communication of IF in the pre and post-test periods • To produce three sets of guidelines pertaining to management and disclosure of IF in relation to genetic testing in a clinical setting, for the use of research ethics committees and for genomic researchers.
