Setting Priorities
The objective of my research project is a major contribution to the field of population-level bioethics -- a newly emerging field that addresses ethical issues in population health by bringing together work from ethical theory, bioethics, health economics, health policy, and related fields. It aims to formulate philosophical theories of distributive justice in the context of health care resource allocation, work out their implications for ethical issues in population health, and explore their connections to concepts and tools in health economics and health policy. The planned output of my research project is a single-authored monograph and several academic (possibly co-written) papers. The project aims to bring together concepts, arguments, tools and methods from ethical theory, health economics, health outcomes evaluation, and health policy. It is intended to be suitable for readers in philosophy and applied ethics, health economics, health policy, as well as for policymakers.
