The History of Human Rights Discourses on Mental Health in a Global Context
The research pursues the following main objectives:
a., to collect and systematize source material that allows for taking up current ethical, social and legal debates within global health and human rights and to publish the results of this research in the form of two academic articles as well as in alternative publication forms
b., to place the issue of mental health into a global context by revealing how it became a human rights issue and thereby raising the question as to how the concepts of mental health, autonomy, dignity and participation may be understood in a multicultural world
c., to contribute to breaking down negative perceptions and taboos associated with the study of mental health up to the present day
d. to contribute to formulating new research agendas at the intersection of human rights and mental health, with the inclusion of academic researchers and practitioners, as well as representatives of various interest groups
