On this bloody business: an in-depth study of endometriosis among transgender and gender diverse individuals
The following research questions will be answered with this research project:
- Question 1: to explore the relationship between gender and endometriosis symptoms, namely dysmenorrhea and dyspareunia, and in particular to understand how the physical experience of pain interact with one’s gender self-perception.
- Question 2: to assess incidence of endometriosis and endometriosis symptoms among TGD people undergoing gender affirming surgeries of the reproductive tract.
- Question 3: to establish good clinical and research practices to implement in the provision of care for TGD patients with (suspected) endometriosis from a multidisciplinary perspective.
- Question 4: to establish if and how gender self-perception among TGD people vary depending on endometriosis symptoms, i.e., to explore whether gender and somatic symptoms can be mutually dependent and thus correlated.
- Question 5: to test the adequacy of the current diagnostic and treatment options in endometriosis care considering ESHRE guidelines as care as usual. During the focus groups patients will also be engaged in the development of a patient tool to track and evaluate endometriosis symptoms and to improve patient’s readiness to enable TGD competent care provision.
