The human exposome: ethical and societal implications
The main objective for this Brocher Foundation residency will be to work on the third article for my PhD dissertation on ethical and societal implications of human exposome research and connect to other academics and experts in the field. This article, which will be submitted to a relevant peer-reviewed journal, outlines how the exposome approach, despite the holistic conceptualization and ambition to improve the conditions for a healthy life, can also easily reinforce perceptions of individual responsibility. I will explore ethical reasons for assigning responsibility for tackling health risks to argue what forms of responsibilization might be unreasonable or unfair. I will also explore exposome research strategies to clarify and emphasize collective and governmental responsibility for diminishing environmental health risks.
