Moving from Science Communication to Science Engagement in Autism Research and Clinical Practice, Focusing on Genetics
1. Before arrival at Brocher, conduct qualitative interviews with clinicians and researchers across the US to assess the current state of science engagement efforts and willingness. Similarly, conduct interviews with people with autism and their families, to assess their needs and wishes.
2. At Brocher, combine interviews with literature review to synthesize a plan for science communication and engagement, to be implemented at one of the five funded NIH Autism Centers of Excellence.
3. While at Brocher, visit several European centers to get their perspective on autism genetics and genomics, including my colleagues Professor Manolis Dermitzakis at Université de Genève and Professor Alexandre Reymond at Université de Lausanne.
