Defining Frameworks within Collaborative Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships to Enhance Access to Medicines in Low- and Middle-Income Countries
Exhaustive landscaping of collaborative partnerships will be performed. Interviews with stakeholders from international organizations such as WHO and WIPO focused on therapeutic areas such as malaria, NTDs and access related aspects including IP, market dynamics and pricing are planned. Experts from specific PPPs such as MMV, DNDi, MPP among others can be performed to gather detailed inputs on the design and enforcement of access provisions within PPPs. Results from the landscaping study will be discussed with the stakeholders. Their suggestions will be crucial in defining a paradigm framework for access provisions within collaborative PPPs.
The research results will be submitted as a publication in an international, peer-reviewed scientific journal and the data gathered during the empirical study will serve as a base for further PhD research related to the theme of PPPs. We will also reflect upon the appropriate role of PPPs in the “4As of Access – Availability, Affordability, Accessibility and Affordability” within health systems in LMICs. Finally, recommendations for the approach of the different policy makers will be presented, so that cross-disciplinary and inter-institutional research will lead to more innovative methods to enhance access to treatments.
