Janelle is a postdoctoral research associate in modern global and humanitarian health history, based at the University of Manchester's Humanitarian and Conflict Response Institute (since November 2023). She was previously a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Oxford's Centre for the History of Science, Medicine and Technology (2021-2023), and holds associate membership at Oxford's Faculty of History through 2025. Her research focus on access to therapeutics, politics of evidence production, and the influence of the private sector on both. She completed her PhD (2016-2020) at the University of Edinburgh with the Global Health Governance Group, where she focused on success narratives in global health and the World Bank. Janelle completed a residency at the Brocher Foundation in 2018; co-lead a workshop on "Disrupting global health narratives" in 2019; and is returning for a residency - where she will be working on her book on global clinical trial bureaucracy and politics - in early 2024.
