L’utilité de ce genre d’institutions est incontestable. Car le monde moderne est sans cesse confronté à des innovations, médicales ou autres, qui s’appliquent à l’homme ou à son environnement proche. Ce lieu est donc nécessaire pour préparer la matière intellectuelle qui sera ensuite transférée aux citoyens afin que ceux- ci puissent se prononcer quant à la légitimité de ces innovations.

Lobbying for the Unborn: Anti-Abortion Discourses and Abortion Governance in Post-communist Romania

The objectives of my Brocher Residency are:
1) Processing the ethnographic data collected in Spring/Summer 2016 concerning anti-abortion lobby in contemporary Romania, and linking them with the partial results of my long-term ethnography (2013-2017) concerning reproduction control in post-communist Romania

2) Developing this specific data into a scholarly publication and dissemination

3) Consulting with reproductive health and policy experts at the World Health Organization – Department of Reproductive Health and Research, on current Human Reproduction Programs/HRP (especially on family planning and contraception, and preventing unsafe abortion) and past HRP in Eastern European countries

4) Interacting with visiting researchers at the Brocher Center about the topic of health policy and regulation, especially in the area of reproductive health and abortion-care

I am an Incependent Researcher in Sociocultural Anthropology, currently affiliated with CEREFREA ( Centre Régional Francophone D'Études Avancées En Sciences Sociales), University of Bucharest, where I develop a new project on family planning and sexual education in Romania (with a sub-component on telemedicine and medication abortion). My main research interests so far have centered on reproductive health and reproductive rights, European social movements, the cultural memory of European communism and the history of anthropology in (Easter) Europe.
