The medical history of the refugee camp
Jennifer Carr is a medical humanities doctoral researcher, funded by the Wellcome Trust, based at the University of Glasgow, Scotland. She is an Associate of Manchester-based emergency assistance charity UK-Med. Jennifer has a MSc Poverty and Development. Jennifer's research is concerned with the history of humanitarianism and the history of medicine. Her doctoral work on refugee camps brings together these two fields, focusing on the practice of medical humanitarian action at times of emergency and the shift from crisis to Development. Jennifer's works includes case studies of protracted refugee camps in the Western Sahara and Palestinian camps. Considering key themes of humanitarian management, professionalisation and the value of life, Jennifer's work investigates birth and maternity priorities in refugee camps and death and dying.
