Ethical analysis of the normative values and beliefs influencing utilisation of care from skilled birth attendants among mothers in selected areas of Zambia
Research Goal
The overall aim of this study is to explore normative beliefs and values and analyse ethical issues that influence women’s utilisation of skilled birth attendance in a selected peri urban area of Zambia.
Specific Objectives
1. To document existing literature on normative beliefs and values that hinder or support SBA care in Africa
2. To understand women’s normative values and beliefs around care by skilled birth attendants during child birth in a selected peri-urban area of Zambia
3. To explore the normative values and beliefs of women’s influencers (husbands, family members and community leaders) on perinatal decision making around care seeking from skilled birth attendants during child birth in a selected peri-urban area of Zambia
4. To analyse the extent to which the identified normative values and beliefs align with established ethics frameworks
