Ethical and social implications of Tuberculosis (TB) research and programing - Examining gender dimensions (under-reporting) of TB among men
Main objectives of this project are (i) to examine and ascertain under-reporting of TB cases among male population among countries with high prevalence of TB and (ii) to analyze baseline data for proposed recommendation/s for policy makers to plan and implement programs/interventions to increase timely notification of TB cases among the male population in TB endemic regions and sub-regions.
Measurable objectives/goals for this project include:
• Ascertain depth of gender disparities in TB diagnosis, reporting, and access to treatment.
• Identify, understand, and document determinants of gender disparity with regard to barriers for TB diagnosis, care, and treatment among the population in TB prone areas.
• Assess awareness and knowledge among different stakeholders regarding the appropriate reporting of TB cases among men and women in TB prone areas.
• Propose appropriate recommendations (based on baseline data) for gender-sensitive TB detection programs/interventions to be implemented across regions and sub-regions with a higher burden of TB.
