An Empire of Resilience? Psychological Science and the Remaking of Humanitarian Interventions
The overall objective of this stay is to research and communicate a new, critical perspective on the social and ethical implications of resilience research. Practically speaking, this will take two forms. The first is the editorial work on a proposed scholarly collection investigating the ethical, social, and legal implications of resilience as the concept has been deployed in a range of global settings. I am editing this book with Lamia Moghnieh (University of Copenhagen) and Kate Sheese (Sigmund Freud University, Berlin). We have applied to the Brocher Foundation to host an international workshop on this topic in the June 2024. We anticipate publishing this book with Oxford University Press as part of a series which I edit dedicated to New Histories of Psychology. During the stay, I plan on reviewing the contributions and drafting the book’s introduction. Second, I plan on using my stay to draft my own chapter as part of this edited volume. I am also hopeful that a stay at the Brocher Foundation will open further avenues research in this area as I can do some preliminary consultations with nearby archives of humanitarian organizations.
