Navigating Uncertainty: Illness, Care and Agency in Urban India
This thesis was an ethnographic analysis of the interrelationship between illness, suffering, crisis of care and agency in a low-income neighbourhood in New Delhi. Based on 12 months of fieldwork, the research portrays the textures of everyday life lived with illness and inadequate care, and its entanglement with changing gender and kinship roles, and the neoliberal shift towards biomedicalisation of care.
