Kwon Jong Yoo Kwon Jong Yoo

Kwon Jong Yoo was born in (the Republic of) Korea in 1959. He is now a university professor for philosophy in the Chung-Ang University in Korea since 1995. He has studied East Asian philosophical traditions and is now studying about essence of what makes truths in each different context of knowledge with the methodology of Constructive Realism and Enactivism. The scope of the knowledge is not bounded to philosophy but extended to any knowledge of other practical fields, for example, medicine, social system, cognitive science, etc. He has had much concern about re-constrution of the East Asian self-cultivation methodology by viewpoint of the enactivism developed by Francisco J. Varela and Evan Tompson and is now developing an enactivist framework that explain East Asian Buddhism and Confucianism as a self-organizational/self-cultivational methodology. According to this study direction he has paid attention to differneces  in understanding human mind in many different languages, cultures, and academic fields and thus went further yto comparative studies of mind understanding. From 2012 to 2016, he as the director of the Director of the Institute for Philosophical Studies at the Chung-Ang University has completed a three-year research project financially supported by the National Research Foundation of Korea. Now he extends research field to health and life that closely related to study of medicine. Related to this he has joined in Professor Friedrich Wallner's Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) project and has been developing philosophical refinement of meridian system with concepts and theories of systems view, cognitive science, and constructive realism of Prof. Wallner. He graduated the Korea University in Korea for Ph. D. degree and had studied Constructivism and Constructive Realism as a visiting scholar in the University of Vienna for a year from 2005 to 2006, and for the same period performed his research as LG Yonam Research Professor. From 2014 to 2015, he had studied at the New York State University, Stony Brook and performed comparative studies of mind. And from 2012 to 2016, he gave lectures and seminars at the Beijing Normal University as a guest profeesor of the University.



He has served as the President of Korean Society of Confucian Studies  from 2015 to 2017, as the president of the Society of Mind Studies in Korea from 2011 to 2015, as the President of the International Association of Biocosmology from 2013 to 2016, and as the Chair of the International Conference on Comparative Studies of Mind since 2010 until 2018.
