Preparing the Ethical Future of Nanobionics Brain Implants for Clinical Trial.
The work intends to provide an in-depth ethical exploration of the use of nano-bionics implant during experimental clinical trials. Mostly due to population ageing in developed countries, the number of patient needing medical brain implant is quickly increasing. A range of new applications is quickly rising from novel generation of nano-bionics implant (i.e. implantable electrodes to predict epilepsy, drug delivery systems, 3D bioprinted implant, etc) which need first to be tested for safety and efficacy in experimental clinical trials. This project will assess the novel and pressing ethical issues raised by nanobionics-enabled brain implants within experimental trials, especially by advancing medical ethics insights about revising traditional trial design and by developing a new framework for understanding the postoperative risks of irreversible harm through first-in-human trial.
