Why public and community engagement is essential in global health
This project aims to determine the "why" of community engagement in global health through literature review and conceptual analysis. This proposal builds on my experience facilitating community engagement and conducting research on engagement as well as bioethics training. Of note is the setup of the Tak Province Community Advisory Board on the Thai-Burmese border (see link to 5 minute viideo -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFYJWfGoVeQ&t=2s) the Young Persons’ Advisory Group in Cambodia and evaluation of the the science theatre projects mentioned above. The residency will provide a protected time for writing and a good opportunity for me to interact with others working in bioethics. It will also situate me in Europe where the traditions of bioethics may differ from that in Asia. As this project is closely linked to our collaborative projects with Swiss TPH (Professor Daniel Paris) and University of Amsterdam (Dr Chris Pell), it will give me an opportunity to have face to face meetings in Switzerland or Europe either just before or just after the residency.
