Critical Data Studies: Ethical Implications of Biomedical Big Data
Annika Richterich received her PhD in Media Studies from University of Siegen (Germany) in 2012. She is Assistant Professor in Digital Culture at Maastricht University’s Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (Netherlands). Before joining the faculty in September 2013, she worked as postdoctoral researcher at the graduate school “Locative Media” (University of Siegen). Annika investigates the ethical implications of big data for contemporary research practices. In particular, she explores how big data have been used in biomedical research and how these developments have been negotiated with regards to moral values. Her work examines the interplay between recently emerging possibilities – and promises – of digital data analysis and how research has been conducted and institutionally embedded.
