How to support the Brocher Foundation

Scientific activities

The Brocher Foundation is looking for «mixed» contributions since it shall continue to provide the main financing of its activities, while opening the possibility to be supported by public or private funding.
Hereunder are some of the requests for funds presently open:

One or several research grants
« Senior » or « Junior » (including travelling costs)

The financing of brochures

(500 copies per annum) and the yearly programme (1'000 copies per annum), in French and English – sent to all the partners of the Foundation and its Alumni.

Support for a workshop of about twenty specialists

A workshop allows for the study of very specific issues and the preparation of publication or guideline drafts. A workshop lasts between two and four days.

Support for a symposium open to about sixty participants

The symposia enable the gathering of many scientists and experts. They last a day and a half. They allow for the Science/society debates on matters at the forefront of scientific news.

Installation of professional audio-visual equipment in the Auditorium

In order to host our events in the best manner ergonomically and professionally we need the installation of a new sound system, projector, microphones and recording equipment.

The Brocher Alumni meeting every two years

To date, 150 scientists have been hosted for research at the Brocher Foundation. Fifty more researchers shall stay in 2013. The objective of the next Alumni meeting in 2014 is to host these scientists for two or three days around a topical conference, the conclusions of which will be published and shall become an effective working platform for the years ahead.

A WHO seminar

In 2013 the Foundation shall organise a seminar in Hermance. This is to support interaction between expert field workers and researchers.

Our two other projects

I) Creation of a Brocher award

Moreover we offer the possibility to create an Award, the amount of which is yet to be decided upon, for the work of a scientist that would be voted on by all the Brocher Alumni each year. The amount and the terms remain to be set.

II) Organisation of prestigious summer academies
Organisation of a Summer University – To date the Brocher Foundation hosts the Harvard Summer University and the first European University (a partnership of several European and Swiss universities) on the subject of Philosophy of Life Science– the aim being to offer continued support to these universities and open our doors to other universities or NGOs.

The Brocher domain

To enlist with us is to contribute to the preservation of a bicentennial heritage, unique on the shores of Lake Leman.

The Brocher Domain is made of eight buildings spread over about three acres of ground. The Foundation has a statutory obligation to maintain the property: the main house called Villa that was restored in 2010, the Brocher Centre commissioned in 2006, the lodge, the Chaumière (formerly the garage), the Orangerie, the Pavillon des bois (formerly the woodshed), the boathouse and finally the Gloriette.

Since 21st December 2006, the whole of the Domain is registered in the inventory of the Monuments and Sites department of the Canton Geneva.
